Governor activity
Gov. Mike DeWine announced that most health orders will end on June 2, including mask mandates, social distancing and capacity restrictions. Health orders that pertain to nursing homes, assisted living facilities and data collection will not be rescinded. DeWine further stated that business and schools would be allowed to continue any restrictions.

What kind of leader are you?

I had an interesting conversation with a board member last week. As we discussed the events of this past year and all we've learned, she said we really need to take some time to look at the kind of a leader we were, and understand now - what kind of leaders we are. I spent some time thinking about the notion that it's quite possible our leadership style or type evolved over the last year. Certainly, we evolve every year, right? However, leading through a pandemic and through all that the pandemic dealt us - changed leaders.

Robert M. Heard Sr. becomes OSBA president May 8

OSBA President-elect Robert M. Heard Sr., a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District Board of Education, became the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) president effective May 8. He replaces Scott E. Huddle, who resigned as president of the association.

Heard will be supported in his role by Immediate Past President Lee Schreiner, a board member at South-Western City Schools, and members of the OSBA Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.

General Assembly activity
The Ohio General Assembly sent House Bill (HB) 2 to Gov. Mike DeWine for his approval. The bill would establish the residential broadband expansion program.
