Gov. Mike DeWine signed into law House Bill 244, which would:
• prohibit public schools from mandating a vaccine that is not fully approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration;

Expiration of Virtual Meetings
As the state of emergency has lifted and life is beginning to get back to normal, public meetings have reverted to pre-pandemic guidelines. For example, the Ohio legislature did not extend or make permanent a public board’s ability to conduct meetings in a virtual landscape.

Supreme Court declines to review appeals court case on rights of transgender students
Last week, amid a flurry of opinions and other actions, the U.S. Supreme Court made a notable decision not to act when it declined to review Gloucester Cty. School District. v. Grimm, a 4th Circuit Court of Appeals decision involving the rights of transgender students.

Tips for school board succession planning
Research shows that a well-functioning school board absolutely contributes to high student achievement. Boards that are effective at intercommunication and listening, and work respectfully toward consensus tend to encourage a similar culture in their school districts. School board members who work in harmony with one another and with their superintendent and treasurer also tend to earn the respect and admiration of their community. A high level of trust and communication is one to which all school boards should aspire.
