The joint OSBA/OASBO workers’ compensation program is excited to announce that CompManagement Health Systems, Inc. (CompManagement MCO) is merging with CareWorks of Ohio, Ltd. (CareWorks MCO), effective Monday, Dec. 21, 2020. This merger accompanies a name change to Sedgwick Managed Care Ohio (Sedgwick MCO).

Sedgwick, CompManagement’s parent company, acquired CareWorks in 2019. For the past 16 months, the teams at CareWorks and CompManagement have partnered to develop best practices to ensure outstanding outcomes remain available to school district.

Week of December 21

General Assembly activity
The General Assembly sent House Bill (HB) 409 to Gov. Mike DeWine. The bill modifies student attendance requirements at certain e-schools; changes education law for the 2020-21 school year to provide school districts continued flexibility and relief during the COVID-19 pandemic; and provides flexibility to school districts regarding educational requirements of substitute teachers for the 2020-21 school year.

Week of December 14

General Assembly activity
The General Assembly sent Senate Bill (SB) 310 to Gov. Mike DeWine. The bill, which originally provided for the distribution of Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to local subdivisions and businesses, was amended in conference committee to include the following changes:

In November, Governor DeWine appointed John Logue as the new Administrator/CEO of the Bureau of Workers Compensation. Earlier in his career, John worked for CompManagement and was the program administrator assigned to work with the OSBA/OASBO workers’ compensation program.
