In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the U.S. Department of Education has released proposed amendments to the regulations for Title IX for public comment.
Governor activity
Earlier this week, Auditor of State Keith Faber’s office announced that an Ohio grand jury had indicted a former school superintendent for numerous violations of law. Among the violations were 13 counts of having an unlawful interest in a public contract for securing contracts for a family member.
State Board of Education
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Stephen D. Dackin resigned effective June 3, 2022. Dr. Stephanie K. Siddens is serving as interim state superintendent. The State Board of Education is expected to approve the appointment at the June meeting.
Senate activity
The Senate selected Dale B. Martin (D-Cleveland) to fill the term vacated by Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland), who resigned her seat last week.
If you listen carefully, you might be able to hear Alice Cooper singing in the distance. School may be out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean all is quiet in the schoolhouse. We know that many districts use the summer months to complete building repairs and improvements and dispose of old or unused property.

The General Assembly sent the following bills to Gov. Mike DeWine for his signature:

The role of public schools is to educate children, and taxpayers should know that their resources are being used wisely.
Districts report this return on school investment through several measures of success and accountability, including test scores, graduation rates, attendance, college readiness and workforce skills training programs. They also continue to introduce new initiatives and programs to seek better results.
