Summer is still a busy time for school districts and educational service centers in Ohio. There are several deadlines for statutory reporting requirements that fall during the summer months. Among those deadlines are:
- July 19, 2024: The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) has extended the statutory deadline for school districts to report their use of Student Wellness and Success funds and Disadvantaged Pupil Impact Aid. Districts must file reports even if they did not expend any of these funds. ODEW has created a survey to aid districts in making the required reports in the OHID portal. More information about the spending requirements is available at this Legal Ledger blog post. Guidance and resources on filing the required reports is available at ODEW’s Student Wellness and Success Funds and Disadvantaged Pupil Impact Aid webpage. Districts can contact wellnessandsuccess@education.ohio.gov with any questions.
- Aug. 1, 2024: This is the deadline for certain districts to adopt online day plans, which replace blizzard bags. These plans do not need to be submitted to ODEW. Districts that use a blended learning model or operate an online learning school are not eligible to use an online plan and do not need to adopt a plan. Questions about online day plans can be directed to onlinelearning@education.ohio.gov.
- Aug. 2, 2024: Districts must submit annual restraint and seclusion data to ODEW. Directions for completing the data collection, frequently asked questions, and additional guidance are available on ODEW’s restraint and seclusion webpage. PBIS_Restraint_Seclusion_Questions@education.ohio.gov is the email address for questions.
There are other deadlines throughout the year, many of which are reflected on OSBA’s dates and deadlines, an ongoing resource for districts. Districts with general questions about these and other topics are welcome to contact OSBA’s legal division at (855) 672-2529 or (855) OSBA-LAW.
