On February 11, the Ohio Department of Education released the Tier 1 Schoolwide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Module Series. State law defines PBIS to mean “a multi-tiered, school-wide, behavioral framework developed and implemented for the purpose of improving academic and social outcomes and increasing learning for all students.” Ohio Revised Code 3319.46. All Ohio school districts are required to implement the PBIS requirements outlined in statute and in the administrative code. Professional development of staff is one component of those requirements.

These modules have been developed in order to enable district personnel to meet the professional development requirements around PBIS, which are located in Ohio Administrative Code 3301-35-15. ODEW partnered with the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI) to develop the new online asynchronous module.

More information about the training module can be found on ODEW’s website at the link provided above. For more information about PBIS requirements generally, visit www.ohiopbis.org. OSBA members are welcome to contact OSBA’s legal divisions with general questions by calling the legal hotline at 855-OSBA-LAW.
