Earlier this year, the U.S.
OSBA will be conducting five Board Candidate Workshops in September. Veteran staff will lead candidates through a concise and valuable program to help them better understand the everyday roles and responsibilities of school board members and the legal aspects of campaigning and of being a board member. The cost to attend is $50.
The dates and locations are:
Sept. 4 — ESC of Northeast Ohio, Independence, 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

If you were unable to file a board of education candidate petition by Aug. 4, you may file by 4 p.m. on Aug. 23 to be a write-in candidate for a board of education.
Attend the Budget Analysis and Discussion Seminar on Aug. 1 to learn about the school-funding changes in the budget bill as well as the other provisions that will impact districts.

Senate activity
The Senate passed House Bill (HB) 166 by a vote of 33-0. Before the two-year state budget bill reached the Senate floor, the Senate Finance Committee made several changes to the legislation, including:
• implementing long-term graduation requirement changes, which were crafted jointly by Ohio Excels, the Fordham Institute and the Alliance for High-Quality Education;
