The State Board of Education approved the following measures at its July meeting:
• A resolution to increase the Third Grade Reading Guarantee promotion score from 683 to 685 beginning with the 2022-23 school year.
New legislation delays dyslexia screening process by one year
Recently, Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 583 of the 134th Ohio General Assembly. As a result, the following changes related to dyslexia support laws will take effect Sept. 22:
Expiration of virtual meeting authorization
In February, the Ohio General Assembly passed House Bill (HB) 51, which allowed public bodies, including boards of education, to meet remotely, but only until June 30, 2022.

Kids eat free with the Summer Food Service Program
The Ohio Department of Education is sponsoring the Summer Food Service Program again this year, providing children with free, healthy meals during the school break.

U.S. Supreme Court decision on employee prayer
Earlier this week, the U.S. Supreme Court issued an opinion in the case Kennedy v. Bremerton School District. The case involved a high school football coach who lost his job after he knelt at midfield after games to pray. The coach sued the district for the disciplinary actions it took against him, alleging that the district’s actions violated his rights under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

US DOE proposes amendments to Title IX regulations
