Maintaining your public relations policies

If you are like most school employees, you know that your district maintains a list of policies. But you’ve probably never read them. It’s only when there’s a question — or worse, a crisis — that you pull them out.

It’s worth the effort, however, to take some time to become acquainted with your district’s policies and procedures. Policies around public relations are especially important to know because they address how you deal with parents and the community.

Board Self-Assessment

Board Self-Assessment

Although board self-assessment is not a requirement under Ohio Revised Code, many boards find that assessing their own work as a governance group serves multiple purposes. It allows for open discussion about progress made toward district goals and objectives. It also gives the board a chance to discuss how they're working together as a team with their superintendent and treasurer, and whether the processes and protocols they've agreed to as a group are working.

Financial services

Ensuring the financial stability of your district can be critical for many school board members and administrators. To complement your district's financial knowledge, OSBA offers services to help you plan for the future and ensure proper financial controls are in place today.

Insurance Programs

The OSBA Insurance Agency LLC serves as the broker and manager of OSBA's insurance program, which offers protection and peace of mind for difficult situations. OSBA provides $100,000 of business travel accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage to school board members as a free membership benefit. Coverage applies when board members are performing school board business, on school property or traveling in their capacity as board members.

Pooling programs

OSBA offers several pooling programs to help districts get the best prices for services by joining with other districts and organizations. Review the list of pooling programs to find ones that best fit your district's needs.
