Governor activity
Gov. Mike DeWine signed into law Senate Bill (SB) 229. The bill went into effect on Dec. 14, 2021, and will do the following:
Attendance Works Professional Development
Students who are absent from school miss important learning opportunities that can be difficult, or impossible to make up. Engaging students is the key to getting them focused and ready to learn.
Attendance Works is offering a three-session virtual training for elementary and secondary school leaders and staff to provide proven, evidence-based tiered strategies to engage students and promote attendance using a team approach. The series cost is $300 per person. Group sessions will meet every two weeks on assigned dates.

General Assembly activity
The General Assembly sent Senate Bill (SB) 229 to Gov. Mike DeWine for his signature. The bill passed with an emergency clause and would do the following:

ODE transportation compliance monitoring system
The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) has made a new transportation compliance monitoring system available on its website. The system was created in connection with newly enacted provisions of law contained in House Bill 101, the biennial budget bill.
