Collective Bargaining Seminar

Join the Division of Legal Services at OSBA’s offices on Friday, Sept. 6 for our second collective bargaining workshop. The program will cover the bargaining process, current issues and some difficult subjects in school negotiations. You will also leave with important tips for effective bargaining and discuss some frequently exchanged bargaining proposals.

Court has jurisdiction over OHSAA's Competitive Balance Rules

The Supreme Court of Ohio issued its decision in the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund case Ohio High School Athletic Assn. v. Ruehlman. The LAF, along with BASA, OASBO, OASSA and Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, provided an amicus brief supporting OHSAA in the case. In August 2018, Roger Bacon High School and the Greater Catholic League Coed (GCL Coed) filed a lawsuit in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas claiming that they were unfairly affected by OHSAA’s competitive balance rules.

Licensure Requirements for Substitute Teachers

The licensure requirements for substitute teachers in Ohio will undergo significant changes once Senate Bill 216 (SB 216) goes into effect on July 1. The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) formerly issued both Long Term five-year, and Short Term one-year substitute licenses under Revised Code (RC) section 3319.226.
