Running for a seat on a local board of education may seem easy, but it's important to understand the board's role and the legal and ethical frameworks for running a campaign and managing the work once elected. In this workshop, learn about a board member's role, responsibilities and scope of authority and how high-functioning boards of education work together. Review the legal and ethical parameters for school board members, and get tips on running campaigns that are financially, legally and ethically compliant and meet reporting requirements.
Workshop participants will receive a Board Candidate Kit, which includes Candidate: A practical guide to running for school board book; a subscription to the OSBA Journal, the premier bimonthly magazine for school board members; and a subscription to Briefcase, a semimonthly newsletter.
