Last month, the governor signed into law House Bill (HB) 502, which requires certain public school employees to undergo youth suicide awareness and prevention training once every two years.

General Assembly activity

Last month, the General Assembly sent the following bills to the governor for his signature:
HB 66, which requires public schools, within two hours of the start of a school day, to notify the parent of a student who fails to arrive at school and is not excused from attendance;
HB 477, which revises civil immunity protections for instances in which mental health services are not provided or procured by school districts, schools, school board members and employees; revises certification requirements for employment of paraprofessionals; and eliminates nonoperational and outdated education provisions.
