Senate Education Committee

The committee heard proponent testimony on House Bill (HB) 170. This bill calls for developing optional academic content standards and model curriculum for computer science. HB 170 also addresses educator qualifications for teaching computer science.

 

The committee also heard proponent testimony on Senate Bill (SB) 105. This legislation would designate the month of October as Ohio Principals Month.

 

The final bill before the committee was SB 39, regarding community school operator contracts, the operation of e-schools and performance measures for blended learning schools. OSBA, the Buckeye Association of School Administrators and the Ohio Association of School Business Officials offered proponent testimony on the bill. Click here for a copy of the testimony.

 

Senate Local Government, Public Safety and Veterans Affairs Committee

The committee held a hearing on HB 8 with no witnesses present. This bill would prohibit disclosing information about minors who are involved in school bus accidents.

 

House Task Force on Education and Poverty

The task force met on Thursday and heard presentations from State Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria and Ohio Education Policy Institute consultant Howard Fleeter on the state of economically disadvantaged students in Ohio’s schools.
