Ohio Supreme Court
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled 4-3 that the Ohio Congressional map approved by the General Assembly is unconstitutional. The General Assembly has 30 days to approve a new map.
Ohio Redistricting Commission
The Ohio Redistricting Commission reconvened to start drawing new House and Senate state legislative maps. The members of the commission will remain the same, except Rep. C. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington), the incoming minority leader, replaces Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron). The commission has until Saturday, Jan. 22, to approve new maps.
House Ways and Means Committee
The committee held a second hearing on HB 234, sponsored by Reps. Jennifer Gross (R-West Chester) and Riordan T. McClain (R-Upper Sandusky), which would repeal the commercial activity tax with a five-year phase out.
The committee also held a second hearing on HB 482, sponsored by Reps. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) and Jay Edwards (R-Nelsonville), which would create the temporary Tax Fraud Study Commission to report on state income tax fraud.
Finally, the committee held sponsor testimony on HB 501, sponsored by Rep. Thomas Hall (R-Madison Township), which would authorize school districts to levy property taxes for school resource officer services, among other changes.
House State and Local Government Committee
The committee held a second hearing on House Joint Resolution 1, sponsored by Reps. McClain and Craig S. Riedel (R-Defiance), which would request a constitutional convention to impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and members of Congress.

The Ohio Department of Education has the following proposed rules open for public comment:

- OAC Chapter 3301-44 Adult Diploma Pilot Program rules;
- OAC Chapter 3301-40 Rules on Nonpublic Schools Administrative Cost Reimbursement;
- OAC Chapter 3301-102 Community School rules (5 rules).
