Senate activity
The Senate passed Senate Concurrent Resolution 8 by a vote of 31-1. The resolution urges Congress to enact The Sunshine Protection Act of 2019, which would permanently extend daylight saving time.The Senate also passed Senate Bill (SB) 125 by a vote of 31-1. The bill would expand the income tax deduction allowed for contributions to Ohio's 529 education savings plans to include contributions to 529 plans established by other states.
Senate Ways and Means Committee
The committee amended and passed SB 212, which provides a full or partial tax exemption to developers and owners of newly constructed homes within specified areas during the construction period and for 10 years after the home is occupied. The amendment requires a municipality or township to hold three public meetings, on three separate days before adopting legislation. In addition to school districts receiving advanced notification, non-school taxing units are required to receive advanced notification. OSBA, the Ohio Association of Business Officials and Buckeye Association of School Administrators provided testimony as interested parties.
Senate Health, Human Services and Medicaid Committee
The committee held a third hearing on House Bill (HB) 210, which requires Ohio Department of Education-licensed preschool programs and other entities to screen and test prospective employees for tuberculosis and annually test certain employees for a five-year period.
House State and Local Government Committee
The committee held a first hearing on HB 331, sponsored by Rep. George F. Lang (R-West Chester), which requires a campaign committee, among others, when appointing a campaign treasurer to include with the form to be filed with the Secretary of State a notarized signature of that treasurer acknowledging the appointment.
