A message from OSBA on civil rights and George Floyd
The Ohio School Boards Association is deeply saddened and outraged at the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and others who have tragically lost their lives to systemic racism over the years. We join with others in expressing our sympathy and support to their families and friends. We add our voice to all who have expressed the need for change and the willingness to take appropriate steps toward such change.
There is no place for racism and hatred in our society. Strong public schools are the great equalizer and education provides the foundation to change perceptions and attitudes. We must go beyond words to implement meaningful solutions that eliminate racism, social injustice and bias and foster equity to provide the catalyst for sustained, systemic change.
OSBA remains committed to moving beyond discussion. Diversity and inclusion are core values of this association and represent an integral part of our mission, vision and goals. OSBA is also committed to equipping school boards with the tools they need to provide students of all backgrounds and abilities with a high-quality education. We will listen intently to those seeking to be heard to create an inclusive environment that ensures that our students have a future that allows all to be successful, no matter their race, ethnicity or background.
Together with our 712 member districts, we look forward to implementing meaningful solutions that provide equality for all.
